This course introduces discussion about Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs - what they are and the impact these have on individual development from pre-natal to post-natal and throughout childhood and adulthood. the unit is separated into 8 sections to provide understanding of not only what the ACE may be but what this means for children and how this impacts upon children directly and indirectly. Imprisonment, Bereavement, being looked after as part of Childrens Services or having been Previously Looked After are embedded into the course along with discussion around loss and trauma and how these ACEs influence the brain (through Neurological impact). Discussion includes how such impact can be understood from the childs position rather than the adult position. In this way the course is relevant to anyone who works with or supports children and/or young people and/or their families from a personal interest or professional interest basis.
This course provides a solid foundation as underpinning knowledge for all of the courses and training we provide enabling those new to this area of study to develop their knowledge further.
